Obituary

Lona Rae Hinman
July 11, 1935 – June 28, 2019

Lona Rae Hinman, 83, passed away June 28, 2019 at Longmont United Hospital.
She was born July 11, 1935 in Stromsburg, Nebraska to Roswill and Alta (Mentink) Johnson.
Lona Rae was perfectly suited for nursing with her caring and compassionate nature. She attended nursing school at Nebraska Methodist Hospital and graduated a Registered Nurse.
She met her husband, John Hinman, while both were working at Nebraska Methodist Hospital where their paths crossed in the cafeteria. They were subsequently happily married on August 18, 1957 in Lincoln, NE. After John completed his service in the US Navy, they moved to Longmont in 1962 where they spent many years working together in his medical practice.
Lona Rae loved all those around her and her heart knew no bounds. She cared immensely for this community and enjoyed frequently volunteering and participating in many local organizations to help others. She was a supportive member of Heart of Longmont Methodist Congregation, United Methodist Women, her church circle and tutored for elementary school kids through Kids Hope. She will be missed by all, especially her PEO sisters in Chapter FD.
Lona Rae had a passion for traveling, quilting, playing bunco, participating in her book club, singing with the Wesley Annes, and going out with the Lunch Bunch. She was known to often share her time, a listening ear, and her renowned cinnamon rolls with family and friends.
She cared for and nurtured her family in all endeavors. She was always present and supportive at concerts, sports activities and family events. She found great joy in gathering the family, especially for traditions on Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Lona Rae is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, John; children: Mark and wife Ann of Longmont, Tim and wife Barb of Temecula, CA and Heather and husband Craig of Woodland Park, CO; grandchildren Michelle, Jenny, Kimmy, Sam, Albert, Harry, Becca, and Thomas; and one great grandchild Kaitlyn.
Memorial services will be 10:00 am Monday, July 8, 2019 at the Heart of Longmont Methodist Church. Memorial contribution can be made to Girls, Inc., Global Girls Alliance Fund, Heart of Longmont, or Our Center and sent in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. In babysitting for Mark, Tim and Heather in the summers, one day Lona Rae asked me to prepare their evening meal of mac and cheese. This was from scratch of course - no box mixes then. She told me how before leaving in the morning and told me she knew I could do it. I was petrified all day. What if I ruined the family's dinner?? As I recall the meal turned out fine and she said I did a good job.....however, you all may have a different memory! Lona Rae was always so kind and gentle. I missed her behind me at church today. I will miss her for a long time. Dr. John, Mark, Tim and Heather, you are in my prayers as we remember your wonderful wife and mother.

Judy and I became patients of Dr. John Hinman when we moved to Longmont in 1973 and remember Lona Rae well from office visits. She was always so pleasant and welcoming. We were saddened to hear of her passing. Our thoughts go out to Mark, Tim and Heather as well as Dr. John. We had John's brother Art for a dentist in Sioux Falls, SD before we moved to Longmont, so it was an easy medical transition from one Hinman to another. May memories of her bless and comfort your future days.
