Obituary

Jose “JJ, Joe” Martinez passed away in his home on April 17, 2019. He was 81 years old.

Jose was born on August 19, 1937 in Trinidad, CO to Santiago and Eleanor (Maestas) Martinez. He moved to Longmont in 1955. On January 24, 1959 he married Mary Sylvia Martinez.

Jose was a truck driver for the Longmont Turkey Plant, worked as a grinder for the Slack and Horner foundry and then drove a bus for RTD until his retirement.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church; and had previously belonged to the Moose Lodge, the Longmont Jaycees and the Knights of Columbus. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, riding horses, camping, 4 wheeling, trips to Black Hawk, and traveling.

Jose was preceded in death by his wife Mary Sylvia Martinez; his parents Santiago and Eleanor Martinez; and one brother Samuel Martinez.

He is survived by his sons Russell Martinez and Richard (Steph) Martinez; his daughters Yvonne Benavides and Annette (Brian) Beddow; his grandchildren Cassandra, Frank, Denise, Rebecca, Michael, Sosten, Jordan, Tyson, Kourtney, Ashley, Lisa, Alexander, Jeremy, Michael and Aaron; his brother Ernest (Hope) Martinez; his sisters Madeline Schmidt and Roberta Martinez; 29 great grandchildren with one on the way and two great-great grandchildren.

Visitation is from 4:00-6:00pm with Rosary prayers beginning at 6:00pm on Wednesday April 24, 2019 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00am Thursday April 25, 2019 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Burial at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery from 11:00 am. Reception at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Visit www.ahlbergfuneralchapel.com to share condolences.

My deepest Condolences to the family. I had the pleasure of knowing and seeing him almost every day for the past ten years. He was an amazing man with a Great sense of humor and loved his family with his whole heart. He will be missed.
