Edmund Eugene Umstot, Sr., passed away February 11, 2108 at McKee Medical Center in Loveland.
He was born April 23, 1937 in Akron, Ohio to Ralph and Frances (Foster) Umstot. Gene moved with his family to New Orleans, LA and graduated from Fortier High School. He attended Tulane University for a year and a half, until he enlisted in the U.S. Airforce, after being the first person on record to receive a perfect score on his Armed Forces Entrance Exams.
Gene served in the United States Air Force from October 29, 1956 to July 28, 1961 and was honorably discharged.
On September 3, 1958 he married Moonyeen Spiher in Concord, CA.
Gene had a long career with IBM working in Denver, Colorado Springs, Pueblo, back to Denver, Raleigh, NC and finally to the Boulder/Longmont plant. Although he retired from full time employment in 1992, Gene continued working for IBM as a supplemental and contract employee. He finally stopped working in April of 2017.
He moved from Longmont to Berthoud in 1992 and then to Loveland in 2017.
Gene was a member of LifeBridge Christian Church, since 1984 when it was First Christian Church. He was an active member volunteering in many areas of ministry, being a sound tech for worship and singing in the choir.
He enjoyed photography, playing softball and working on cars.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Cathi James and sister Joan Guggenheim.
Gene is survived by his wife Moonyeen, his children - Edmund Umstot, Jr. and his wife Cheryl, Cindy Mason, Carla and Mike Durante and Candy and Chuck Durfee; twenty-two grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday February 23, 2018 at LifeBridge Christian Church. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Research Center. Share condolences at www.ahlbergfuneralchapel.com.
